History of Hermosa Beach

A sunny small beach city of 1.3 square miles. Hermosa Beach sits at the center of Los Angeles County's South Bay coastline, just 5 miles south of Los Angeles. The population is just over 19,500 creating a small town feel. There are only two schools in Hermosa, one elementary and one middle school. (Link to City School site). They go to the Manhattan Beach High School called Mira Costa. The town is the very essence of the Southern California lifestyle, with temperatures ranging from highs of 77 degrees in the summer to 67 degrees in winter and nighttime temperatures that rarely below 50 degrees. There are a myriad of regular outdoor activities such as volleyball, surfing, skateboarding, and boogie boarding to name a few. Other favorite activities include jogging. skating or biking along the Strand, the paved strip paralleling the beach and connecting Hermosa with the neighboring beach cities. There are architecturally diverse residences on the Strand, bungalows scattered throughout the town, and multilevel homes in the hills with ocean views. The City has police and fire departments, a skate park, green belt, community theater, and senior center.

This lively beach city is also well known for its entertainment offerings including live music from rock to blues to jazz. Festivals and special events abound on weekends. The three-day weekends of Memorial Day and Labor Day bring thousands of visitors to the Fiesta Hermosa street fair, which has been a tradition for many years, features hundreds of crafters and artists and live bands. In addition, Hermosa Beach is well known for its many tasty and diverse restaurants.

Hermosa Beach is within a few minutes commute of many of the largest and best known names in Corporate America in such fields as aerospace, high tech, and financial.

Hermosa Beach is divided into three distinct areas, the Sand Section, Hermosa Valley and East Hermosa
