We did it!! We “tied the knot” last month in Michigan and it was as magical and wonderful as expected.
Our plan was to have an extremely small and intimate wedding with just family and a very few friends. We wanted our families and those closest to us to have an opportunity to really get to know each other and spend quality time. Everything went according to plan…until it didn’t! Although I had been told MANY times that Michigan weather was super unpredictable…my California brain just didn’t grasp that. So when our completely outdoor wedding was threatened by rain, well, I didn’t know what to do. So I just let it go. As my husband (still getting used to that title!!) kept saying, no matter what happens, we will be married after this—and that made me smile because it was so true.
The ceremony went off without a hitch as we stood in the middle of a giant botanical garden in front of a beautiful lily pond and recited our solemn vows in front of those we love. But then, as the guests were sipping their cocktails, a monsoon rolled in and within minutes decimated our dinner tables, etc. We were outside taking newlywed photos and narrowly avoided becoming completely drenched. But as luck and the universe would have it, everything was just as it should be. The chaos brought our guests closer together, our coordinators scrambled and had our tables restaged in a newer, maybe even more incredible setting, AND a rainbow appeared.
Extraordinary is what it was. Sean and I have both been through so much leading up to our wedding day; some might say we have had our share of very rainy days. But standing in front of each other, as husband and wife, underneath that rainbow last month—sure was the perfect ending…or should I say the perfect beginning for our marriage.
Cheers to you all!
