Last month my “baby” dog turned 14 (that's 98 to you and me!). In honoring him on this milestone, I was reminded of how much he means to me and how much I have learned from him over the years.
I am passing on these 10 lessons in case they’ll inspire you to live a life like Cody has:
- Be near the door when your loved ones arrive, smiling and excited to see them.
- If someone you care about wants to “go for a walk”, always be ready to accompany and be a good listener.
- Always cuddle on the couch.
- Be loyal to those who treat you well.
- Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep!
- Live in the moment.
- Stop and smell the flowers, and enjoy each day.
- Accept loving gestures.
- Curiosity can be rewarding—look around!
- Treasure your "family"—they are the ones who will be there for you now and always.
So many of these lessons have improved my life. I was especially surprised at how much lesson 1 created the best times at home, particularly when I added the tail wag! Over the years I have been encouraged to pay more attention to nature and see what shows up. For example, feet in the grass centers and grounds me. Paying attention to animals gives me perspective on my limitations and how beautiful the simplicity of life can be. What a gift to notice!
Have an incredible month!
- Lauren
