Bon Jour from London and Paris!
What an incredible place to celebrate the start of 2023! While I don’t create a list of resolutions for New Year’s these days, I am big on goal setting that creates a big impact on my life. For several years now I have been working with a life coach. The process has been invaluable especially as it relates to work life balance and focusing on the positive. One exercise that I highly recommend is a yearly recap. At the end of each year, instead of listing things I want to change about myself and my life, I look back and assess “what went well or right”. Since my natural tendency in life was looking for “what’s wrong or what went wrong”, focusing on the opposite has been eye opening to say the least.
So what my coach has me do, and I encourage you to do the same, is go back over the year and write down all that went right. List all of the small victories and big accomplishments—the fun memories and wonderful events. Everything I learned and how I grew. It seems daunting at first but when I take out my calendar and scroll through each month of photos I see all the incredible times I had and shared. For me, gratitude for all of it floods in…and as I have learned, gratitude is the birthplace of joy and happiness. What a way to prepare for a new year.
